A 59-year-old man was fatally injured in a work accident at an industrial plant in Luterbach SO on Monday. According to the police, the man was trapped while transferring caustic soda into a large tank. He also came into contact with the industrial chemical.

The man died on site despite rescue measures, the Solothurn cantonal police announced on Tuesday.

Another three employees also came into contact with the caustic soda at 4.40 pm. They were taken to hospital. Caustic soda is a corrosive, clear and odorless liquid.

The police and the public prosecutor's office are investigating the exact course of events and the cause of the accident.
