A man evaded a police check in the city of Lucerne on Sunday morning and jumped into the Reuss. The Lucerne police were unable to find the man despite searching for several hours.

The Reuss currently has a strong current and is carrying a lot of water, as the Lucerne public prosecutor's office announced on Monday. Rescue helicopters, water police boats and the rescue service were deployed.

The police had intended to check the man as he had been behaving conspicuously. There was a suspicion of a narcotics offense, according to the public prosecutor's office. The man ignored the police's request to stop and jumped into the Reuss at the St. Karlibrücke bridge.
