A man killed a pit bull with an axe in St. Gallen on Monday. In doing so, he ended its attack on another dog. The pit bull died on the way to the vet.
The pit bull, which was on a leash, had previously attacked a free-roaming Maltese on the street, as the St. Gallen city police reported on Tuesday. It bit the dog on the neck and did not let go.
The two dog owners and passers-by tried unsuccessfully to separate the two dogs. A local resident observed the situation from her balcony, according to the press release.
The two went out of the apartment to the dogs with a battle axe and a kitchen knife. The 43-year-old German finally hit the pit bull in the back with the axe, causing it to let go of the Maltese. The pit bull was seriously injured and died on the way to the vet.
