The sunken sailing ship and a male body were located on the lake bed on Monday using sonar technology.
Specialists from the cantonal police forces of Geneva and Vaud were called in to recover the man.
The 56-year-old sailor who went missing after a shipping accident on Lake Zug is dead. He was rescued on Wednesday afternoon from a depth of 80 meters, according to the Zug law enforcement authorities.
During a regatta on Saturday afternoon, a sailing boat occupied by three men sank in Lake Zug near the village of Oberwil. Two people were rescued, slightly hypothermic but uninjured. Their 56-year-old companion was located at the bottom of the lake on Monday.
Specialists from the cantonal police forces of Geneva and Vaud, who had the experience and equipment for such dives, were called in for the rescue, according to the press release.
After the accident, the rescue services initially launched a search operation using sonar technology. The boat was located on the lake bed between Oberwil and Buonas. The diving robot of the Zurich cantonal police finally verified that it was the sunken sailing ship and a male person.
The ship has not yet been salvaged. The cause of the accident is also still unknown and is the subject of ongoing investigations, according to the statement.
