A car and a motorcycle collided on the Jaun Pass in the Bernese Oberland on Thursday evening. The driver of the motorcycle died at the scene of the accident despite rescue efforts, as reported by the Bern cantonal police on Friday.

According to initial police findings, the motorcyclist collided head-on with the oncoming car in the municipality of Boltigen BE for reasons still to be clarified.

The deceased was a 55-year-old Swiss national from the canton of Fribourg. The driver of the car was uninjured. Another motorcyclist crashed in the course of the accident and suffered minor injuries, according to the press release. He received medical treatment at the scene.

The Jaun Pass had to be completely closed for several hours due to the accident, the statement added. The Bern cantonal police began an investigation into the circumstances of the accident.
