For the first time ever, iOS 18 will make it possible to freely arrange apps on the screen. This means that you can also leave areas empty, for example to avoid hiding your loved one or loved ones in the background.

You can also change the background colors of the icons or switch to a dark mode to spice up your phone even more.

Anyone who works on a computer every day is now very familiar with web versions of certain apps. Unfortunately, these are not always available or really accessible. In future, Mac users will be able to mirror their mobile device on their iMac or Macbook.

This should allow the cell phone to be controlled and operated directly from the work device. At a later date, it will even be possible to move files between iPhone and Mac in this way.

The Control Center will also have new customization options. Buttons can be customized as desired - similar to what is already the case with widgets. Apple is also adding additional pages to the Control Center on which multimedia or smart home controls can be placed, for example.

These new buttons are also used for quick access on the lock screen, where the flashlight and camera are located by default.

Probably the biggest change is in Photos: Apple has completely overhauled and modernized the interface here. In future, users will be able to organize photos better and find them more easily. This includes more themes and better filter options.

However, the carousel in the top section, where the actual photo library and some other optional views were to be displayed, has been removed following vehement criticism.

There are also some new features in the Messages app. In future, for example, individual text passages can be formatted and you can respond to messages with all kinds of emojis. The time function is very useful, allowing you to send certain texts at a later scheduled time. Birthdays are perhaps less likely to be forgotten as a result.

The elephant in the room with iOS 18 is certainly Apple Intelligence. This is a series of AI-supporting functions. These help you when writing texts, but also when creating images. In addition, voice assistant Siri is set to receive another significant upgrade.

However, Apple Intelligence will only be available as a beta version later this year, even in the USA, and will probably only be rolled out in Europe next year.
