As the newspaper "Le Parisien" and other media reported, citing the public prosecutor's office, the 27-year-old killed a 16-year-old in an apartment he was using in Courbevoie near Paris on Thursday evening and stole his scooter. He then drove it to Paris, where he attacked a police officer. The attacker, who was shot by another police officer, later died in a clinic.
The attacker suffered from mental health problems and was therefore being treated in a clinic, from which he eventually fled, according to media reports citing the police. Investigators see no terrorist background to the attack and no connection with the Olympic Games, which begin next week in Paris.
