The city of Lucerne will start the rock stabilization measures at Schlössli Schönegg in the Gütsch area next Monday. They are expected to last until January 2025, as the city of Lucerne announced on Thursday.

So far, the unstable rock body has not moved, Lucerne's Environment Director Marco Baumann told the media. The situation is stable. Nevertheless, parts of the rock could break off at any time. A second geological report commissioned confirmed that the risk situation is high.

In mid-September, the city announced that a 13,000-ton boulder was threatening to fall from the Gütschhügel. Part of the Schlössli Schönegg, the Gütschweg, the SBB portal of the Gütsch tunnel and four residential buildings would be affected by a rockfall.

As an immediate measure, the town has had steel palisades flown in by helicopter. These are intended to reduce the danger and mitigate the potential for damage in the event of an incident.
