Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte wants to continue teaching at a school in The Hague in his new role as head of NATO. Rutte told reporters in The Hague on Friday that he wanted to check whether this was possible "in any way".

The right-wing liberal politician is soon to be appointed NATO Secretary General and will succeed Norway's Jens Stoltenberg on October 1.

Rutte was Prime Minister of the Netherlands for almost 14 years. However, the graduate historian continued to teach social studies once a week at a secondary school in The Hague. He will move to Brussels to the official residence of the head of NATO. But he plans to return to The Hague at the weekend, he said.

In the summer of 2023, his center-right coalition collapsed and Rutte announced his departure from politics. He had said at the time that he would also like to work full-time as a teacher. However, he had been asked several times by the USA, among others, to run for the post of head of NATO.
