The search operation for three missing people in a cone of rubble following a storm in the southern Graubünden valley of Misox resumed on Sunday morning. According to the police, the rescue teams are still being supported by dogs, drones and helicopters.

The search in the municipality of Lostallo GR had to be temporarily suspended during the night from Saturday to Sunday, as a spokesperson for the Graubünden cantonal police told the Keystone-SDA news agency on Sunday morning. "In the meantime, the search has resumed to the same extent as the day before," the spokesperson continued.

On Friday evening, a landslide and heavy flooding occurred in Sorte, a district of the municipality of Lostallo, after persistent rainfall and heavy thunderstorms. A cone of rubble buried three houses and initially four people. On Saturday morning, the emergency services were able to rescue a woman from the cone of rubble and take her to hospital.

The rescue workers had not given up hope of finding the missing people alive. "When we look at the debris with the huge masses of rubble, however, the chances of survival are relatively slim," the cantonal police spokesman continued.

Cantonal road remains closed on Sunday

The storm is also affecting traffic. "The cantonal road between Mesocco and Lostallo will certainly remain closed for the whole of Sunday," said the cantonal police spokesperson. The A13 national road between Roveredo GR and the San Bernardino Pass was also affected. Several meters of the road collapsed and had to be closed on Friday evening. The A13 also remains closed.

In the meantime, the army has also been deployed in Misox, as the Federal Department of Defense, Civil Protection and Sport (DDPS) announced on X. It is assisting the Graubünden cantonal police with the transportation of people and equipment and with the search for missing persons.
