The decline in turnover among Swiss service providers slowed somewhat in April. There is a ray of hope in the "transport and storage" sector in particular.

Adjusted for working day effects, service turnover fell by 2.6% in April compared to the same month last year. In March, the decline had still amounted to 8.0%, as reported by the Federal Statistical Office (FSO) on Monday. There are thus signs of a slight easing.

Only the "transport and storage" economic sector recorded rising sales. The increase here was 7.2 percent. All other sectors declined.

Meanwhile, there was only a slight drop in trade (-1.0%) and in "Hotels and restaurants" (-2.8%). By contrast, the decline was particularly pronounced in the "information and communication" (-13.4%) and "real estate and housing" (-11.9%) sectors.

Turnover in the "provision of professional, scientific and technical services" also fell significantly (-7.1%). The economic sector "provision of other business services" recorded losses of 9.4%. According to the FSO, the sectors "Rental of movable property" (-18.7%) and "Placement and supply of labor" (-14.2%) were the main contributors to the decline.

The FSO's service turnover statistics (DLU) are monthly economic statistics that describe the development of turnover in the service sector. It has been published since 2023.
