Storm Slope above the A2 near Bissone TI must be secured

Heavy rainfall in southern Ticino on Sunday led to a temporary closure of the A2 highway between Mendrisio and Bissone. The area above the road had to be made safe, explained the Ticino crisis management team at the request of Keystone-SDA.

Due to the intense rainfall in Mendrisiotto over the past 24 hours, debris and water were threatening to spill onto the road from the slope above the highway, explained Renato Pizolli, communications officer for the Ticino emergency team.

According to the Ticino cantonal police and Viasuisse, the A2 southbound was open again shortly before 4 pm. The emergency services said it was difficult to estimate how long the closure would last.
