The two occupants were taken to hospital by ambulance, as the Bern cantonal police reported in a press release. The plane had taken off from Langenthal airfield in Bern. It had to make an emergency landing for unknown reasons and came to a halt on its back in a field in the Ranflüh region.
The aircraft involved in the accident was a "De Havilland" biplane for two people, built in 1931. According to the industry magazine "Skynews", the aircraft was one of the oldest still airworthy airplanes in Switzerland.
The Bern cantonal police and the Swiss Transportation Safety Investigation Board (Sust) have begun investigations into the cause of the accident.
