Spanish police searching for a 19-year-old British man missing on Tenerife have rescued a vacationer from Scotland who had lost his way in the mountains. The man was found exhausted but otherwise safe and sound in a ravine, a police spokesman in Buenavista del Norte said on Tuesday. "He is fine," the police officer emphasized.
The man had set off on a hike in the northwest of the island off the west coast of Africa on Friday. When he did not return to the starting point hours later, residents of the village of Los Carrizales alerted the police. Police in the same region have been searching for 19-year-old Jay Slater since Monday last week. Initially, there was still no trace of him. On Tuesday, a special unit of the Guardia Civil from Madrid was dispatched to intensify the search, as the Civil Guard press office announced on request.
