A priest in Austria is alleged to have produced the stimulant drug crystal meth. The 38-year-old was remanded in custody, confirmed the regional police headquarters in St. Pölten.

The man is suspected of having produced the highly dangerous neurotoxin for resale. According to media reports, a second person is also involved in the case. Drug precursors and laboratory equipment were seized during a house search at the vicarage in question. The police did not provide any further details.

After the allegations came to light, the priest was immediately relieved of his duties in the diocese of St. Pölten. He was also banned from all pastoral activities in the diocese, according to the diocese of St. Pölten. The man of God is a priest of the Archdiocese of Warsaw and has been working in Austria since 2021.
