After winning the contract, the company Swissport International has announced that it intends to take on the approximately 600 employees of the previous provider, Wisag Ground Service. "We will make an offer to all employees," says a company spokesperson.
Wisag has not made a single redundancy so far and has no plans to do so, explained a spokesperson for the losing company from Frankfurt. Instead, the company wants to offer its employees future prospects within the company and is currently working on solutions. The company will also appeal against the license decision. Wisag Aviation cleans aircraft in Frankfurt with other sub-companies and offers passenger services in the terminal.
Change planned for the beginning of February 2025
The change of provider is scheduled to take place on February 1, 2025. Swissport, which already provides other services at Germany's largest airport, says it plans to invest 25 million euros in electrically powered vehicles. Frankfurt will be the company's largest location in Germany and one of its most important in Europe.
Ground handling services include loading activities, maneuvering passenger stairs and tugs as well as other tasks on the apron. The airport operator Fraport also offers these services via a subsidiary. According to EU regulations, however, there must always be a second provider at larger airports.
