The St. Gallen Cultural Foundation has awarded the art prize to author Christine Fischer, who lives in the city of St. Gallen. The Town Hall for Culture in Lichtensteig received a recognition prize.

According to a press release issued by the State Chancellery on Wednesday, the St. Gallen Cultural Foundation awards the art prize in recognition of significant, lasting achievements that have an impact beyond the canton's borders.

The literary work of 72-year-old Christine Fischer is diverse. For more than 30 years, she has regularly published in various literary journals and anthologies and has written several novels, short stories and plays.

Fischer's work is "decelerated literature". Her writing is "beyond gimmickry and attractive plot patterns". Anyone who engages with her texts will sharpen their own perception, according to the award citation.

The cultural foundation awards the recognition prize to "continuous, exemplary and sustainable cultural work".

In 2019, Lichtensteig made the former town hall building available to the Rathaus für Kultur association for a five-year test phase. Since then, it has established itself as a cultural hub. The awards ceremony will take place on October 24.
