The Lindenfeld civil defense facility in Burgdorf is no longer needed to house asylum seekers for the time being. The town will close the emergency accommodation, which opened a year ago, at the end of October 2024, as announced on Tuesday.

The closure will be possible with the opening of two larger above-ground collective shelters. However, the Lindenfeld emergency accommodation remains on the reserve list.

It has been on the Canton of Bern's strategic reserve since 2017 and has already been used temporarily for asylum seekers on several occasions. A maximum of 100 people can be accommodated here.
