The Cantonal Office for Municipalities and Spatial Planning has approved the Thun local planning revision and rejected all pending objections.

The mayor of Thun, Raphael Lanz (SVP), described the step as a "milestone" in a press release issued by the town on Friday. With the new local planning, the high quality of life and identity of the town could be maintained. At the same time, Thun can also continue to develop.

The canton's approval decision triggered a 30-day appeal period. During this period, the canton received two largely identical appeals. They were submitted by a local architectural firm and a pension fund.

The complaints concern the regulations on non-profit housing construction and those on the site bonus. The city will now submit a request to the canton to ensure that the undisputed parts of the local planning revision can come into force as quickly as possible.

Until the local planning revision comes into force, the new regulations will continue to apply to building projects. This means that building applications will be assessed in accordance with the current 2002 building regulations and may not contradict the provisions and plans of the local planning revision.

As soon as the revision comes into force, building applications will be assessed exclusively in accordance with the new law. The same applies in the event of partial entry into force for the affected parts.
