Zurich City of Zurich voters face airport referendum

The voters of the city of Zurich will have to vote on a project loan for Zurich Airport. The City Council has requested that the city's investment be moved from financial assets to administrative assets. However, the vote will have no impact.

The city is pursuing strategic goals in the public interest with its investment in Flughafen Zürich AG. The City Council announced on Wednesday that this participation should therefore be transferred to administrative assets rather than financial assets.

A vote is required to transfer the stake. This will result in lower financial assets. However, the vote will have no impact on the people of Zurich.

The amount of money to be transferred is still open. The amount is based on the book value at the end of 2024, which was CHF 269.5 million at the end of 2023.

The vote is likely to take place in the first half of 2025. Before then, the bill will go to the municipal council. The City of Zurich holds five percent of Flughafen Zürich AG. Mayor Corine Mauch (SP) sits on the Board of Directors.
