Hans Mäder (center) has been confirmed as mayor of Wil SG in the first round of voting. A second ballot will be necessary for two of the five seats on the town council. The FDP, SP and Greens lost seats in the town council, while the Center Party, SVP and GLP made gains.

The 66-year-old Mäder achieved 3553 votes. The absolute majority was 2889 votes. Mäder's challenger Andreas Hüssy (SVP) received 1502 votes.

The two incumbent councillors Andreas Breitenmoser (center) and Jigme Shitsetsang (FDP) were re-elected.

Councillor Ursula Egli (SVP) fell just short of the absolute majority of 3070 votes with 2996 votes. The SP was also unable to defend its seat on the Wil municipal council in the first round of voting. It achieved 2859 votes with candidate Manuel Nick. The second round of voting will take place on November 24.

In the municipal parliament, there were shifts in seats in favor of the center. It won two additional seats and, together with the SVP (+1 seat), is the strongest force in parliament with ten seats. The FDP (-2) and the SP (-1) have six seats each.

The Greens also suffered a loss of seats (new: 5 seats). The GLP, on the other hand, gained one seat and now has two seats. The EPP retained its only seat in the 40-member parliament.
