Liechtenstein and the USA want to establish a regular dialog on economic and strategic issues. Foreign Minister Dominique Hasler and US Ambassador to Liechtenstein Scott C. Miller signed a declaration of intent to this effect on Wednesday.

Specifically, regular meetings at "senior official level" are planned, as announced by the Liechtenstein government. The new format should allow for the continuous follow-up of topics of mutual interest and strengthen bilateral relations between the US and Liechtenstein.

"This will enable Liechtenstein to raise national and foreign policy concerns in an institutionalized framework," the government wrote.

The so-called partnership dialog will primarily focus on economic and strategic issues. This is to take account of the fact that the close economic relations with the US have an increasingly important strategic and security policy dimension for the small state.

Liechtenstein companies now maintain around 7,000 jobs in the United States and are an integral part of important American supply chains. The USA is one of the Principality's most important trading partners.
