Meeting center Steffisburg municipality buys historic Höchhus

The Höchhus in Steffisburg is now owned by the municipality. The municipal council approved the purchase agreement with the previous owner, a foundation, as announced on Wednesday.

Parliament already approved the purchase price of CHF 2.3 million in April 2023. The Höchhus is one of the oldest buildings in Steffisburg. Since the completion of extensive renovation work in 2008, it has been open to the public and will continue to serve as a meeting place.

The history of the historic Höchhus probably goes back to the wooden "Stevensburg" from 1133, as can be seen on the "Offenes Höchhus" website. The current building has therefore been standing since 1526.
