At its meeting on Wednesday, the Nidwalden cantonal council appointed:
- Bruno Dremmel (SVP) as the new councillor for the municipality of Emmetten. He replaces Stefan P. Müller, who resigned prematurely.
- approved the resignation of Markus Stolz from the Board of Directors of Elektrizitätswerk Nidwalden (EWN).
- partially revised the elementary school legislation in the first reading and spoke out in favor of a day school at the special education school in Stans. The vote will take place after the second reading.
- simplified the appeal procedure for traffic restrictions in the first reading of a partial revision of road traffic legislation. The vote will take place after the second reading.
- The majority voted in favor of greater parliamentary involvement in government planning and approved a corresponding legal regulation. The final vote will take place after the second reading.
- approved both a supplementary credit of CHF 1.2 million for the refugee system and an extension of the performance mandate for the years 2025 to 2027 amounting to CHF 5.5 million by 45 votes to 10.
- unanimously approved CHF 13 million as a framework credit for the financing of public transport in 2025 and 2026.
- unanimously referred a motion by Thomas Käslin (center) as a postulate. This requires the cantonal government to consider speeding up the building permit process.
- a postulate by Erika Liem Gander (GLP) on safety for cyclists on the Buochs Unterfeld - Beckenried ferry section was passed by 34 votes to 20 with one abstention.
- an interpellation by Christof Gerig (center) on the opportunities of generative artificial intelligence.
