The canton believes that the Wilderswil traffic bypass, which will open in summer 2023, is fulfilling its purpose. Traffic counts have shown that average daily traffic, for example on Grenchenstrasse, has fallen by 75 percent.

Traffic was counted at three locations before and after the opening of the bypass, as the cantonal building and traffic directorate announced on Monday.
Average daily traffic on Bahnhofstrasse fell by more than half. In February 2023, 11,326 vehicles were counted per day, compared to 5,070 a year later.
At the measuring point on the new bypass, almost 7100 vehicles per day were counted in February 2024. The bypass is heavily used, especially in the direction of Interlaken and the highway, according to the canton's press release.
In its view, the bypass has achieved its goal and significantly reduced traffic in the village. The approximately two-kilometre-long bypass with a 570-metre-long tunnel was opened in mid-August 2023 after around three years of construction.
The tunnel also serves as a relief corridor for extreme flooding of the Lütschine. The entire project cost around 70 million Swiss francs.
