A construction worker was buried by a wall of earth in an excavation pit in Rüschlikon ZH on Tuesday morning and succumbed to his serious injuries shortly afterwards in hospital.
At around 9.30 a.m., two construction workers were working on a wall in a three-meter-deep excavation pit, according to the Zurich cantonal police. Suddenly, a side wall of earth slipped and partially buried one of the two men underneath it.
The accident victim was rescued by colleagues and the quickly arriving rescue services. After receiving initial medical treatment at the scene of the accident, the 53-year-old was taken by ambulance to hospital, where he succumbed to his serious injuries shortly afterwards.
The exact circumstances that led to the side wall slipping are the subject of an investigation by the Zurich cantonal police in collaboration with the public prosecutor's office.
The accident victim's co-workers were looked after by a Zurich cantonal police care team.
The Adliswil municipal police, the Rüschlikon municipal police, the Kilchberg-Rüschlikon fire department, an emergency doctor and an ambulance from See-Spital Horgen as well as an expert from SUVA were deployed together with the Zurich cantonal police.
