The Zurich government does not want to use the Graubünden municipality of Disentis as a model for a transport project. Hiring out e-tuk-tuks is not a practicable way for the canton of Zurich to get people to switch to public transport.

The e-tuk-tuks that have been tested in Disentis since March are micro-mobility. This is what the government writes in an answer to an SP question in the cantonal council. Such a project is certainly suitable for the Surselva region, as it is not economically feasible to provide full public transport access there.

However, the situation in the canton of Zurich is not comparable. Here, 96 percent of the population is served by public transportation. Zurich needs mass transportation, not micromobility. The government believes that there is "no evidence" that e-tuk-tuks are suitable for use in the canton of Zurich.

Rent an e-tuk-tuk via app

Several members of the Zurich SP cantonal council liked the e-tuk-tuk trial in the Surselva. Although the canton of Zurich is not quite as mountainous, there are also hilly, rural areas with few public transport options.

A test with e-tuk-tuks has been running in the Disentis region since mid-March. The small vehicles are intended to be used by tourists on the one hand, while locals are also encouraged to leave their cars behind from time to time.

The vehicles can be hired using an app and used in a similar way to e-scooters in cities, except that they have a roof and are therefore weatherproof. The only requirement is a license for cars or motorcycles in the 125cc class.
