Zurich is drawing attention to next year's Women's European Football Championships with a special streetcar. A fan zone will be set up on Europaallee during the event. The organizers have ambitious goals.

"The games at Letzigrund should be sold out," said tournament director Doris Keller to the media on Friday. That would mean 120,000 tickets would have to be sold. This should be possible through the price, among other things: In the preliminary round, tickets cost between 25 and 40 francs. Anyone with a ticket can also travel there and back on public transport free of charge on match day.

The fan zone in Europaallee, right next to the main railway station, will be put out to public tender. It is still unclear how big it will be. A larger option recently came into play due to the increasing popularity of women's football, as project manager Regula Schweizer told the Keystone-SDA news agency when asked. All 31 matches of the European Championship will be shown in the fan zone. There will also be an entertainment program.

Over the next few months, the special streetcar will travel through Zurich's streets in a special EM design. It will be used on all lines.

Largest women's sporting event in Europe

The aim is also to get girls interested in football beyond the event itself. Zurich is therefore now offering girls aged 10 to 15 a supplementary voluntary school sports program on Wednesday afternoons. A tournament for schoolgirls will be held shortly before the European Championships.

The Letzigrund in Zurich will host five matches of the Women's European Championship, including a semi-final. The first match in Zurich is on July 5, 2025. The European Women's Football Championship is the largest women's sporting event in Europe.
