The actor, theater teacher and director Thomy Truttmann died in Lucerne on Friday at the age of 68. He was active in the children's theater scene in Switzerland for almost 40 years. He always met his young audience at eye level, as his theater Thomy Truttmann announced on Monday.
As the eagle "Örjan", who was afraid to fly, he encouraged children in the audience to face up to their own weaknesses and overcome them. According to his theater, he worked a lot with children's and youth theaters. He did not shy away from difficult topics: in the children's play "Salto & Mortale" he played death.
He toured small theaters and school auditoriums throughout the country with his plays. In recent years, he traveled by public transport to the most remote classrooms, where he gave "scientific lectures to a select audience" as Professor Leonardo.
Truttmann left his mark on amateur theater in Central Switzerland
Truttmann worked regularly as a theater teacher and director, mostly at amateur theaters. Born in Uri, he did development work at the Altdorf UR youth theater and the Monti circus. He played a key role in shaping amateur theater in Central Switzerland with his work for Theater Momänt&Co. Altdorf, Bühne 66 Schwyz, Theater Malters, Theater Giswil, TagliateElle Schwyz, Zuger Spiillüüt and Jugendtheater Ruswil.
Truttmann trained as a primary school teacher and has lived in Lucerne since 1994. For his work, he has received awards including the City of Lucerne Recognition Award as a member of the Luki*ju Theater Lucerne ensemble (2005) and the Berlin Atelier Prize of the Central Swiss Cantons in 2016.
