Toni Niederberger will be President of the Nidwalden District Council in the 2024/25 term of office. Born in Stans in 1974, he is a member of the SVP and is a construction planner and energy consultant by profession.

The District Council elected its new President unanimously on Wednesday. Niederberger has been a member of the cantonal parliament since June 2020. He succeeds Paul Odermatt (center) from Oberdorf as the highest office in Nidwalden.

Niederberger thanked everyone for their trust and the "honorable" election. He called on the politicians to take part in social life so that they do not lose touch with reality.

Erika Liem Gander (Greens) and Matthias Christen (GLP) will share the vice presidency in the new year of office. These elections were also uncontested.

Res Schmid was unanimously elected as Landammann. Schmid is also a member of the SVP and has headed the Department of Education since his election to the cantonal government in 2010. This is the third time he has chaired the government.

Schmid announced that he would manage the weekly meetings of the cantonal government efficiently and well. The exchange with parliament is also important to him. If everyone stood together, the challenges could be mastered.
