At around 16:40 on Monday, a work accident occurred at an industrial plant in Luterbach in which a 59-year-old man was seriously injured. Despite resuscitation measures being initiated, he died on site.

According to current information, workers were transferring caustic soda into a large tank. For reasons still to be clarified, the accident victim became trapped and came into contact with the industrial chemical.

Three other employees also came into contact with the caustic soda and had to be taken to hospital. The exact circumstances and cause of the accident are being investigated by the police and the public prosecutor's office of the canton of Solothurn.

In addition to several patrols from the Solothurn cantonal police, the rescue service, a Rega rescue helicopter, the labor inspectorate, a care team, the public prosecutor's office and a funeral home were also deployed.
