  • In Lower Austria, a driver apparently deliberately drove his truck into a church.
  • A police spokesman told the Austrian news agency APA on Monday evening that the 32-year-old driver from Romania may have had a religious motive.
  • According to initial information, there were no injuries.

A 32-year-old truck driver has rammed the building of a Pentecostal church with his van in Austria. The man hit the building several times in Brunn am Gebirge near Vienna, the police reported. A police spokesman explained that the driver's motive was that the church had destroyed his life. No one was injured, but the property itself suffered "immense material damage", according to the authorities.

The 32-year-old, who has lived in Austria since 2020, was arrested without resistance, it said. The investigations were initially carried out by the Lower Austrian State Office of Criminal Investigation, but are now being conducted by the State Office for State Security and Counter-Extremism (LSE). The man is said to have become conspicuous in the Pentecostal church a few weeks ago and torn up a Bible.
