Fischenthal mayor Barbara Dillier (non-party) and Rapperswil GLP councillor Boris Meier have submitted their candidacies for the office of mayor of Rapperswil-Jona. They are challenging incumbent Martin Stöckling (FDP), who is standing for a further term of office in the general elections in the fall.

Councillor Boris Meier (born 1978) justified his candidacy with a problem of trust in the town of Rapperswil-Jona, "which is making forward-looking developments in the areas of urban planning, transport and public infrastructure increasingly difficult". He offered voters a fresh start.

51-year-old Barbara Dillier declared that she wanted to adopt a "fresh perspective", question the status quo and break new ground.

49-year-old Martin Stöckling is running for a third term of office. He was first elected President of the second-largest city in the canton of St. Gallen in 2016. The mayor at the time, Erich Zoller (center), missed out on re-election.

As of 2025, the Rapperswil municipal government will change from seven partially part-time councillors to a body with five full-time members.

The general election of the Rapperswil-Jona authorities will take place on September 22.
