Two drivers were injured in a head-on collision in the municipality of Gaiserwald SG on Saturday evening. One of the cars had previously crossed into the oncoming lane, as reported by the St. Gallen cantonal police on Sunday.

A 33-year-old man was driving his car from Abtwil SG in the direction of Engelburg SG when, for unknown reasons, his car crossed into the oncoming lane on a long right-hand bend. According to the police, the car then collided with that of a 28-year-old man coming from the opposite direction.

Both drivers were taken to hospital by the emergency services, the police reported. The two cars sustained property damage totaling around 22,000 Swiss francs.

The St. Gallerstrasse had to be closed for two hours while the accident was being investigated.
