Ukraine Ukrainian border guard: attacker killed and 17 fugitives captured
According to the authorities, a border guard in Ukraine fatally injured one of the perpetrators with a shot during an attack by two men with a machete. The second man was injured, the news portal "Ukrajinska Pravda" reported on Sunday, citing the border guard and authorities.

The incident took place on Saturday evening in the western Ukrainian region of Chernivtsi (Chernivtsi). Nothing was initially known about the background or the targets of the attackers. In the course of the war, men of conscription age repeatedly try to leave the country to avoid being drafted to the front.
Previously, 17 men had been apprehended on the border with Hungary who, according to the authorities, were attempting to leave Ukraine illegally. A minibus with the occupants was stopped 200 meters from the crossing, the border guard announced on Sunday. The men came from different regions of Ukraine and were trying to flee to Hungary. According to the information, the men were supposed to pay between 3,000 (around 2,800 euros) and 12,000 US dollars (around 11,200 euros) to leave the country.
Ukraine has been defending itself against the Russian invasion for more than two years, has imposed martial law and ordered mobilization. Since then, men between the ages of 18 and 60 who are liable for military service can only leave the war-torn country in exceptional circumstances.
