Alena Marx qualifies for the semi-finals in the slalom in the single kayak. The 23-year-old from Bern achieved the 17th-fastest time in the preliminary heats.
Alena Marx had traveled to Paris with the reference of two European championship titles in kayak cross. But the athlete from Bern also impressed in the slalom at her second Olympic Games. After a slow first run, in which she touched a gate and was penalized two seconds, Marx improved by almost four seconds in her second attempt and secured one of the 22 semi-final places with the 14th-fastest time of the second run in 98:22 seconds.
The fastest time in the heats was set by the Australian Olympic champion from Tokyo, Jessica Fox, in 92:18. On Sunday afternoon, the ten places of those who will fight for the medals in the final in the evening will be awarded in the two semi-finals.
