The Alinghi women narrowly miss out on reaching the semi-finals of the Women's America's Cup.
The team led by skipper Nathalie Brugger had to concede 3rd place, which would have been enough to progress, to Team New Zealand on Friday.
After hours of waiting due to insufficient wind, Alinghi got off to a perfect start in the afternoon in the sixth preliminary round regatta of their group. However, a mishap during the tacking maneuver at the first leeward gate dropped the Swiss team to last place. In the end, they were one point short of successfully defending their 3rd place on Friday and qualifying for the semi-finals of the challenger teams.
The other semi-finalists alongside Team New Zealand are therefore the boats from Spain, Great Britain, Italy, the Netherlands and Sweden.
