The Australian Open winner and world number 3 Aryna Sabalenka will not be able to compete at Wimbledon due to a shoulder injury.
After a last attempt in training, she had to throw in the towel on Monday afternoon. She was due to play her first round match against the American Emina Bektas a little later.
The decision does not come as a complete surprise. The Belarusian, who reached the semi-finals at Wimbledon for the second time last year, had already indicated at the weekend that it would be difficult to get fit in time.
