Team New Zealand's challenger for the America's Cup has been decided. Syndicate Britannia wins the final of the challenger series against the Italian representative Luna Rossa with 7:4 victories.

The Britannia team had already decided the outcome of the Louis Vuitton Cup duel with Luna Rossa on Wednesday when they won two races to take the interim result to 6:4. Prior to that, the two crews had shared the victories between them on the respective days with two races.

The seventh victory, which gave them an early victory in the best-of-13 series, was won by the British team with a race in which they had to let their rivals close the gap to a few meters at times, but never relinquished the lead they had taken at the start. Britannia crossed the finish line 17 seconds ahead.

The Brits now have a week to prepare for the America's Cup. The duel against the New Zealanders begins next Saturday, October 12. Seven victories are also required to win the world's oldest sporting trophy.
