The Dutch coach cannot understand why Simons' goal against France was disallowed. Meanwhile, SRF pundit Diego Benaglio has a completely different view.

- France and the Netherlands draw 0-0 in the second group game of the European Championship.
- In the 69th minute, Xavi Simons scored for the Netherlands to make it 1-0. The goal is disallowed after a minute-long review by the VAR. A Dutch player was offside and is said to have obstructed the French keeper.
- While Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman is of the opinion that the goal should have counted, former national team keeper Diego Benaglio supports the referee's decision.
Bonds coach Ronald Koeman has no sympathy for the VAR decision in the 0-0 draw in the European Championship group match between the Netherlands and France. A goal scored by RB Leipzig professional Xavi Simons in the 69th minute was disallowed by the video referee.
Teammate Denzel Dumfries is said to have obstructed France goalkeeper Mike Maignan in an offside position. He had been standing next to the goalkeeper when the ball went into the goal. "Personally, I think the goal should have counted," said Koeman.
"Dumfries' position is offside, that's right, but he doesn't interfere with the goalkeeper. That's why it's legal," said the former international, who was also upset that the decision had taken so long. "You need five minutes to check that, I don't understand that. Once again, he's not interfering with the goalkeeper."
He had also spoken to the referee, who had said it was offside. "I saw the scene and I've had my opinion on it ever since, but it stays in the dressing room," Koeman emphasized.
Deschamps: "It was immediately clear to me"
Fellow coach Didier Deschamps, meanwhile, thought the decision was the right one, it was obvious, he emphasized. "It was clear to me straight away, but I don't know why it took so long," said the French coach.
"A sensational victory seemed within reach for a moment in Leipzig", wrote the Dutch newspaper "AD": "Xavi Simons was already running with joy towards the frenzied orange crowd behind the goal, in his own stadium of all places. But the goal was disallowed by the VAR after a minute-long review."
Benaglio: "No opportunity to rush"
SRF referee expert Sascha Amhof said during the match about the scene: "The question that is in the foreground: Was the goalie obstructed when defending the goal? (...) The striker is really incredibly close to the goalkeeper."
For former national team keeper Diego Benaglio, the case is clear. From a player's point of view, you probably see it differently, but the goalkeeper wouldn't have had the chance to dive. "From my point of view, the decision was absolutely right," said the SRF expert.
