Siblings Antonio and Vanna Djakovic continue to polish Switzerland's record at the European Championships in Belgrade. They reach the finals in the 400 m crawl on the final day.
Antonio Djakovic underlined his role as a medal candidate in the preliminary heat. The 21-year-old native of Thurgau, who came second in the 200 m and 400 m crawl at the European Championships in Rome two years ago, managed to qualify with the third-best time.
Vanna Djakovic, Antonio's sister who is three years younger, secured the eighth and final starting place in the final over the same distance thanks to a personal best of 4:17.46. She beat her previous best by six tenths.
Jérémy Desplanches will also be in action on Sunday evening. In the 200m medley final, the Geneva native will once again try to achieve the 1:57.94 required for participation in the Olympic Games in Paris.
The Swiss men's 4x100 m crawl relay team was eliminated. The quartet of Thierry Bollin, Gian-Luca Gartmann, Marius Toscan and Tiago Behar finished 10th in the preliminary heats.
