Dominic Lobalu in the 5000 m race and Simon Ehammer as long jumper want to cash in on the Diamond League final in Brussels on Friday evening. Angelica Moser takes off on Saturday evening.
A Swiss trio that had to make do with fourth place at the Olympic Games in Paris will have the opportunity to end the season with a positive result and possibly a financial boost at the Diamond League Final. For the podium places alone, 30,000, 12,000 and 7,000 dollars are paid out in each of the 32 disciplines.
The all-rounder Ehammer is once again aiming for a top ranking in comparison with the specialists. The European Championship bronze medallist from Rome even won the Diamond League final in Eugene a year ago. Another coup would come as a surprise, as the world's best long jumpers, led by Greece's Miltiadis Tentoglou, are all taking a run-up.
Lobalu fit again
Lobalu had to miss Weltklasse Zürich last week for health reasons. Now the European 10,000 m champion is feeling fit again and, unlike at the Olympic Games, will be able to return to the track for Switzerland.
The European pole vault champion is also traveling to Brussels. Angelica Moser can look back on her best season to date. Now the Swiss record holder (4.88) wants to prove herself one last time this year at the highest international level before she competes in the Golden Fly event in Geneva in a week's time on Saturday.
Kambundji sisters missing
The Kambundji sisters, who opened the season in April with two Diamond League meetings in China, will not be competing in Belgium. Mujinga is feeling the fatigue of the long summer, Ditaji missed out on qualifying because she was unable to match her top times in the second half of the season following an injury.
The Diamond League final in Brussels will be held in the newly renovated national stadium. The Belgians have also been awarded the contract to host the final in 2026. Zurich will be the venue in 2025 and 2027 to 2029 and the Swiss aces of many disciplines will then benefit from the nationality clause.
