The 22-year-old from Aargau was the last of a three-man breakaway group on the 180 kilometers around Koolskamp just seven kilometers before the finish.

In the sprint victory of the Belgian Tim Merlier ahead of Arvid de Kleijn and Jasper Philipsen, Christen finally crossed the finish line with the peloton. The consolation for Jan Christen's older brother was the award for the most combative rider of the day.
