Servette win 2-1 against big Chelsea, but the victory is not enough for Geneva to reach the Conference League after their 2-0 defeat in the first leg.
No time? blue Sport summarizes for you
- Servette narrowly miss out on a surprise win against Chelsea.
- After losing 2-0 in the first leg, Geneva were just one goal short of extra time in the second leg.
- Despite a 2:1 win against big Chelsea, Servette failed to make it into the Conference League.
The game seemed to take the expected course when the visitors from England took the lead in the 14th minute. Christopher Nkunku had converted a foul penalty. However, Geneva did not allow themselves to be rattled by this setback. In the 32nd minute, Dereck Kutesa played a beautiful solo pass for Jérémy Guillemenot, who equalized before the break.
It took almost half an hour in the second half for substitute Enzo Crivelli to restore hope. He was on hand to head home a cross and beat Chelsea goalkeeper Filip Jörgensen. Suddenly Servette came very close to a sensation and even had top-class chances to make it 3:1 through Gaël Ondoua (81') and Timothé Cognat (94'), but the visitors also repeatedly failed to score on the counter-attack.
In the end, Servette were left with an honorary victory against one of the greats of European football. Nevertheless, the European Cup season is over for the Swiss Cup winners before it has really begun. Last year's fairytale, when Servette reached the last 16 of the Conference League via the Europa League, will not be repeated.

6 minutes of added time
Six minutes are added on top. The Servette fans had set off fireworks before the end of normal time. The result: a lot of noise and a brief interruption to the game. One of the reasons for the six minutes. But the game is back underway.

Palmer smashes the ball against the crossbar
Oops, oops, oops. Nkunku makes a wonderful pass to Palmer in the penalty area. The English superstar, Palmer, strokes the ball past Mall and hits the crossbar. A sigh of relief.

Final phase underway
Servette are pressing. The noise coming from the stands here in Geneva is deafening. Will Servette make it into extra time with their 12th man? Chelsea are defending tooth and nail and the goal is still elusive. There are still a few minutes to go.

Toooooor Servette!
Chelsea lose the ball in the forward movement. Stevanovic gets to the ball on the right wing and unleashes the perfect cross, which Crivelli puts into the net. Servette are back!

Toooooor Servette!
Jérémy Guillemenot scores to make it 1-1. Kutasa makes an irresistible run towards the Chelsea penalty area and passes to Guillemenot in the middle, on the right, who slots the ball into the goal. The stadium shakes.

Servette still unable to break through the defense
Hardly anything worth mentioning has happened in Geneva since Chelsea's goal. The only thing that can be said: Servette are not managing to get dangerously in front of the Chelsea goal. The game is taking place between the penalty areas.

Chelsea goal
Tsunemoto fails to receive the ball cleanly and hits Mudryk in his own penalty area. Penalty. Nkunku runs up and scores. Mall smells the left corner, but the shot is too precise and sharp.

Applause for Kutesa
Two firsts in this game: Kutesa gets the first corner kick and the first applause. He makes a wonderful run down the left-hand side against the Chelsea defense. His low cross is then blocked by a Londonder's foot. The corner kick remains harmless.

4.
Mall with a mega goal
Chelsea get dangerously close to goal for the first time. Enzo Fernández gets his shot away centrally in front of the penalty area and forces Mall to make a save that is desperately needed to keep the score level for Geneva. The subsequent corner kick is a less special one.

The starting position: Servette need a football miracle
After the 2-0 defeat, Servette need a medium-sized football miracle at home against their big opponents from England. A two-goal win for Geneva would force the game into extra time and a penalty shoot-out, while a three-goal win would see them qualify directly for the group stage of the Conference League.
