Atlético Madrid lived up to their role as favorites against FC Brugge in the Champions League. Six days after the 3:3 in Belgium, the Spaniards won 4:1 at home.
The Norwegian Alexander Sörloth shone with three goals in the second leg of the round of 16 tie. The 30-year-old showed the efficiency that the Belgian cup winners lacked. The latter had numerous chances to score, especially in the first half, but only took advantage of the one created by Ecuadorian defender Joel Ordoñez in the 36th minute to make it 1:1. Shortly after the break, American Johnny Cardoso put the Spaniards back in front. The last two goals were scored in the final quarter of an hour.
Atlético Madrid will continue their campaign in the round of 16 against Liverpool or Tottenham. The draw for the remaining knockout phase will take place on Friday.
