Gregg Berhalter has been dismissed as coach of the US national team following the team's premature elimination from the Copa América on home soil.
This was announced by the federation on Wednesday. Two years before the home World Cup, the US team had disappointed and was eliminated at the beginning of July after two defeats in three games in the group stage before the knockout round.
The 50-year-old Berhalter and the team were heavily criticized in the US media following their elimination. A successor is now being sought to lead the team with a view to the 2026 World Cup, which the USA is hosting together with Canada and Mexico. Berhalter had been coach of the US team since 2018. Under his leadership, the team won the Gold Cup in 2021.
It remains to be seen what will happen with assistant Vincent Cavin. The Vaud native was assistant coach of the Swiss national team until the end of last year before moving to the US federation.
