The 111th Tour de France has its first prominent withdrawal. Former world champion Mads Pedersen pulls out with crash injuries.
Before the start of the 8th stage, the Lidl-Trek team announced that Mads Pedersen would have to leave the tour due to the consequences of a crash three days earlier. The 28-year-old Dane had fought his way through the following days of the race, but the pain in his left shoulder had not improved.
Pedersen had won a stage in each of the last two editions of the Tour of France. In 2019, he became road world champion in England.
