Mityukov, who finished sixth at the Tokyo 2021 Olympics, won a medal at a major elite event for the fourth time. He has already finished second at the World Championships (2024), third at the World Championships (2023) and third at the European Championships (2021) over his preferred distance.

Victory went to the Ukrainian Oleksandr Scheltjakow, who held off Mityukov and the second-placed Greek Apostolos Siskos in the final 50 meters.

Mityukov also spared his chest hair from being shaved for the final. He wants to save this extra for the Olympic Games.

A little later, Lisa Mamié even won silver in the 100 m breaststroke. In 1:07.15 minutes, however, the Swiss record (1:06.60) was not broken.

The Zurich native turned up the heat in the second lane. However, she had no chance against the winner Eneli Jefimova from Estonia (1:06.41).

The 25-year-old Swiss swimmer won her first medal in the 100 m breaststroke at a major event. She already has two medals to her name in the 200m breaststroke - European Championship gold (2022) and European Championship silver (2021).
