Elena Hartmann misses out on a diploma in the women's Olympic time trial. The Grisons resident from Baar finished in 17th place, almost three and a half minutes behind winner Grace Brown.
In a race characterized by many crashes, Hartmann also ended up on the ground once. As expected, the 33-year-old was unable to get involved in the battle for the medals. The former triathlete and three-time Swiss champion missed out on precious metal in the time trial on the 32.4 km course across Paris by just under two minutes.
Grace Brown coped best with the nasty conditions and wet roads. The 32-year-old Australian overtook the Austrian Christina Schweinberger, who started one and a half minutes ahead of her, after just 22 km and outclassed the competition by one and a half minutes or more. Behind the 2022 and 2023 World Championship silver medallist, Great Britain's Anna Henderson secured the silver medal. Bronze went to world champion Chloé Dygert, who missed out on a better classification with a fall on the cobblestones.
Marlen Reusser, the Swiss figurehead, was missing. The silver medal winner from Tokyo 2021, who would also have been one of the big favorites in Paris, did not get fit in time after contracting a virus. Hartmann was only selected two weeks before the Olympic Games following Reusser's withdrawal. On Sunday, August 4, she will also compete in the road race as Elise Chabbey's helper.
