Tanja Hüberli and Nina Brunner are in the final of the Elite16 tournament in Hamburg, just like two years ago. The duo defeated Valentina Gottardi/Marta Menegatti 21:15, 17:21, 21:19 in the semi-final.
The Swiss had already met the Italians, who had finished second at the European Championships in the Netherlands a week earlier, in the group stage, where they also won in three sets. In the semi-final, Hüberli/Brunner converted their seventh match point.
The pair from Schwyz and Zug, who won Olympic bronze in Paris, now have the chance to win their second title at the highest tournament level. They won their first in April in Tepic, Mexico.
However, Hüberli/Brunner also failed three times in an Elite 16 final. Including in Hamburg in 2022, when they lost to the Americans Betsi Flint/Kelly Cheng. Two years later, they should still succeed in the northern German port city. In the final, Hüberli/Brunner will face either the German European champions Svenja Müller/Cinja Tillmann or the Brazilian duo Thamela/Victoria.
